Sentencing for Mackworth Rec Mugging

Derby Telegraph has reported on a third sentencing following a robbery where a University of Derby student had his phone stolen on Mackworth Recreation ground, near the Britannia Mill site, more than 18 months ago.

Handing him an 18-month sentence in a young offender’s institution, suspended for 18 months, Judge Shaun Smith QC said: “Mr Wilson, you committed this offence some time ago now, we are coming up to its two-year anniversary.

“These were serious matters and on a previous occasion I was persuaded by your counsel to defer your sentence putting you on a curfew for the past six months from 7pm to 7am each night…

As part of the suspended sentence, he had an extra three months added to the curfew he has been serving since last November and ordered to carry out 150 hours unpaid work.
