Walking Together: Latest

Lyn is the new coordinator of the Walking Together group. along with a good friend she is delighted to share their large repertoire of circular walks.

Each 5-8 mile circular walk will be best suited to adults and older children. There will be stiles, hills and mud on all walks and well behaved dogs will be welcome on the lead. Some walks can be local but more often the walks will necessitate a car drive to a meeting point in the Peak District or South Derbyshire. We will meet members of the walking group at a pre-determined date, time and place and we hope group members will be able to offer car share. Generally the walks will be 5-6 miles but as the group becomes established it may be nice to undertake slightly longer walks, especially when the weather starts to improve.

As it is difficult for most people to agree to commit to definite days on an ongoing basis, we suggest we provide details of each walk a month in advance via the Six Streets website. This way, some walks can be at the weekend and some may be week days to make them available to as many people as possible. Please group members inviting friends and family from outside Six Streets to join you in walking.

They suggest essentials for walks will be – walking boots (if possible) or sturdy water-resistant footwear, layers of clothes, snack and drinking water. Individual walking speeds vary so please ensure you allow sufficient time for each walk to ensure everyone feels comfortable. A break of about 20 minutes halfway round is planned.

The first walk is a fairly local one and details are:

Date. Sunday, 1st May

Meet. 10.30am at Duffield Church car park (follow signs for Eyes Meadow)

Parking. There are two car parks adjacent to each other and parking is free

Distance 6 miles

The Walk. Duffield and Milford

A particularly attractive walk to the north of Derby. First we will cross the fields to the River Derwent, before ascending high above the valley, following good ‘green’ and probably muddy paths to Holbrook. Here we will gradually descend to Makeney and the river before ascending again to curve round the Chevin Golf Course back to Duffield. We will walk through the village past the site of Duffield castle back to Duffield church.

If you would like to join them, please email in OR post a note through the letterbox of 54 Wheeldon Avenue.

Please include how many will be in your party, your mobile number and if you will be able to offer car share. They ask for mobile numbers to contact you if you have not arrived by the start time. If, after registering, you find yourselves unable to join the walk please get in touch so others can start walking.

They look forward to meeting you on the 1st May and hope this will a fun way of seeing what is on our doorstep, getting fit and meeting new friends.

Neither Peter or Lyn have any medical training so everyone joining our walks do so at their own risk.
