Veteran oak tree root survey at Markeaton

Highways England will be carrying out a survey on the veteran oak tree in Markeaton, on Tuesday 18 May 2021, between 8:30am and 4:40pm, to find out where the main roots of the tree go.

They say they understand the importance of looking after the environment and are doing everything possible to preserve this tree and protect biodiversity in the area. The information from the survey will be used to review the design and the construction methods to see if the A38 Derby Junctions works can be done without affecting the tree.

What can you expect to see?

There will be digging by hand and using a vacuum excavator to expose the roots without harming them; this will help map out the precise location of the roots. You may also see fencing going up the night before the survey is carried out.
