High Rise Building Safety

The law now says that residents of high rise flats must be listened to when it comes to safety issues. There's a new Building Safety Regulator (BSR) as a result of the Grenfell fire. The law requires BSR to set up a Statutory Residents' Panel to ensure residents are placed at the heart of setting standards and moving forward.

They want current residents of high-rise buildings (such as Rivermead House etc) who would like to be considered for a position on the panel -- the closing date is 18th November.

The purpose of the Residents' Panel  is to make sure residents have a voice in the work of BSR and can give their views about:

  • resident engagement

  • how residents escalate safety concerns to the regulator

  • the regulator's strategic plan

  • other matters that affect them

If you know anyone who lives in Rivermead House or another high rise flat, then please share this with them. They may wish to apply or be able to give the information to a neighbour who will apply.

The panel will:

  • meet about six times in 2023

  • meet three or four times a year from 2024 onwards

  • respond to short surveys and questionnaires which we may use to gather views
