Derby Clean Air Zone

A Clean Air Zone (CAZ) is an area in the United Kingdom where the government has called for targeted action to be taken to improve air quality. A CAZ may implement charging as a way of reducing vehicle volume in affected areas or use other strategies.

Five cities have been mandated by the government to introduce a Clean Air Zone by 2020: Birmingham, Leeds, Derby, Nottingham and Southampton. Derby City Council has chosen not to implement a charge for drivers of the most polluting vehicles to enter any part of the city.

A non charging way could be to reduce the number of drivers who don’t switch their engines off while car is stationary. Oxford City Council (not a CAZ) has produced this poster. Derby City Council may be considering this amongst other measures.
