Aida Bliss Housing

Derby City Council’s Conservation and Heritage Committee have given more information on the former Aida Bliss factory in Chester Green.

The city council wants to provide 74 new council homes - a mixture of 1 and 2 bedroom apartments, and 2, 3 and 4 bedroom townhouses.

The plans are at an early stage with a planning application set to be submitted in the near future. But council bosses wanted to seek initial feedback first before going to the next stage of the development plans.

The factory has stood empty since 2003 when the factory shut down. Aida, which made industrial machines for the manufacture of pressed metal products, had been based in Derby since 1938.

The city council wants to retain some of the historical features of the factory for the new development. It is proposed to retain and conserve the Victorian façade of the foundry.

Next to the façade, it is proposed to create a walkway which could feature a glazed roof covering - effectively creating a covered arcade onto which the front doors of some of the new terraced houses will open.
