Derbyshire Police - cycle path initiative
Our Road’s Policing Unit has taken to the cycle and footpaths of Derbyshire in a measure to keep people safe.
Inspector Greg Hunt, from the unit, explains: “Whilst of course our main priority is to keep the roads of Derbyshire safe and free of crime, we are also very much aware of safety issues on particular cycle and footpaths across the County.
“Clearly at this time more people are using these paths as a form of exercise, but we are aware that they can also be used by people illegally riding motorbikes and we receive a lot of complaints about how dangerous this is.
“With the equipment we have, I am keen to support local Safer Neighbourhood teams as much as possible in the fight against this dangerous activity. The officers deployed last week received a lot of positive feedback from those genuinely using the paths and so it is something we will be doing more of.”
