Bike Light Vigil
Cyclists and residents gathered near the entrance to Markeaton Park on the A38 at 6pm on Sunday evening. They were there because a young woman cyclist died after a lorry collided with her on Tuesday afternoon.
After a minute’s silence, a few people shared their thoughts on the tragedy and her grandad managed to speak of how he believed a cycle path would have meant his granddaughter would still be here today. He said how she always took every precaution she could and hwo much she meant to them. Her grandmother was also there and it was very obvious how much they loved their granddaughter.
Her parents asked for no photos to be taken at the gathering, for her name not to be shared and for everyone to be mindful when posting on social media. It is an unbelievably difficult time for them.
