Walk-in Covid jabs for 16 & 17 year olds at Derby Arena

Update: This will also be available for all over 16 year olds on Saturday 14th August

Those aged 16 or 17 do not need an appointment to get their first covid jab at Derby Arena this weekend. Please do not attend if you are isolating after a positive test or have symptoms of covid.

Walk-in vaccination clinics are taking place Saturday, August 7 and Sunday, August 8, between 8.30am and 6.30pm.

Anyone who has already had their sixteenth birthday or who turns 16 from 7/8/21 can attend the Pride Park venue without an appointment and receive their first dose of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine. 16 and 17 year olds can make their own decision on having the jab, no parental permission is required.

No age ID is required – simply give your name and date of birth during check-in process and your age will be verified from your GP records. If Derby Arena is convenient for you then you can get your vaccination there - you do not need to live in Derby or be registered with a GP in Derby.

Professor Wei Shen Lim, Covid-19 Chair for JCVI, said: "While Covid-19 is typically mild or asymptomatic in most young people, it can be very unpleasant for some and for this particular age group, we expect one dose of the vaccine to provide good protection against severe illness and hospitalisation."

Most people needing hospital treatment are those who have not received any jabs. Many young adults are currently in hospital and some are seriously ill. Teenagers are not immune from Covid and getting vaccinated also protects family members, friends and vulnerable people in society.
