Pavement Resurfacing
Derby City Council has delivered letters to Wheeldon Ave (and perhaps other roads in the area) giving informaiton on resurfacing the pavements. Work on Wheeldon Ave is due to start on Tuesday 14th May. It is expected to last 5 working days.
The council ask that there are no tyres up on the pavement while the work is being carried out. The slurry sealing can take up to 2 hours to fully dry after being applied.
Questions can be directed to maintenance.highways@derby.gov.uk
Information from last summer - some still applies!
The council met with the contractors on Monday and would like residents to be clear that parking is not banned and that the letter sent to households is accurate. The slurry work will take 5 days with 5 days being allowed for the prepatory work - hence the 2 weeks on the yellow boards.
Please do not park your car on the pavement as that would prevent work being carried out on that whole length of tarmac,
They do need a car free space large enough to have their lorry parked close to where they are working that morning/afternoon. This means a gap on the opposite side as well to make sure traffic can pass the work area. Their traffic management team will be looking to use available spaces along with asking some residents to move their vehicles for half days. Once the work is completed they will knock on doors again to say the cars can return. They will then be asking some different residents to move cars so they can move onto next stretch of pavement.
It will be much appreciated if you do move your car when asked. As well as the contractor’s trffic management team, there will be a council representative on hand to ensure the contractors are adhering to agreed best practice.
From previous post:
The work which was due to start on Monday 17th July has been delayed byt eh contractors until 24th July. The signs say the work will take 2 weeks but council were informed it would be 5 days ie one working week.
The council is aware that the yellow signs across the area say that on street parking will be banned. They do not know why this is the case. The contractors had not made this clear in advance so council had naturally thought the usual practice would apply. As the new surface is hand laid that cars parked nearby would be fine. This is being checked with the contractor and further information will be shared - so please check notices around the area.
Normal practice is to allow on street parking throughout the two weeks while coning off necessary spaces to allow for work vehicles to access the stretch they are working on day by day. Those residents with off street parking will not be able to drive over new surface for a few hours to avoid damage both to tyres and to surface.
