LOOSEN UP

Derby Jazz

Derby Jazz

Covid19 has stopped many plans in their tracks including those made by Derby Jazz a not for profit organisation of many years standing. They have responded by working on the LoosenUp project which aims to keep live acoustic music going while working under covid restrictions.

A New Normal Acoustic Street Band for Derby - Let the Slightly Better Times Roll

Loosen Up aims to create:

  • an acoustic street band, which can help raise the spirits of people in Derby with FREE shows as soon as restrictions permit.

  •  work and professional development opportunities for professional jazz musicians in the East Midlands.

  • a rich learning experience for a small number of amateur jazz musicians from the region

How Will the Slightly Better Times Roll?

The professional musicians have already been chosen and are working together online to develop their repertoire. When it is permitted, they will be rehearsing together in socially distanced way.

Loosen Up will be going out into communities to perform 10 shows. Each gig will be 45 minutes long and they will all take place over 5 days. LOOSEN UP is entirely acoustic and will be able to play stationary or in parade, indoors or outdoors - once govt guidelines allow.

LOOSEN UP was conceived by Derby Jazz Development Director Geoff Wright who lived on Statham Street for more than 30 years and so is very keen to bring it to Six Streets. Watch this space!

What Will The Slightly Better Times Sound Like?

As the repertoire is in development there are no clips of these shows but we can probably expect something like this , this or this
