More details on the chargers across Six Streets
Mikk Campbell - Mikk.Campbell@derby.gov.uk - from Derby City Council has given information to a local resident. He has confirmed that the work on Wheeldon Ave will be to get the electricity supply working and then the bays remarked correctly. There was previously a communication breakdown between the charger supplier and National Grid; National Grid undertake the electrical connections in the highway.
He gave more details on the difference between the two types of chargers. Basically, residents did not want all the chargers in the area to be slow chargers as this would increase long term parking in all the marked bays. As noted in the other recent post, the council initially ordered chargers with one cable but they were obsolete by the time the project went forward. The ones supplied have two but there is still just one restricted parking bay.
“The bays on Wheeldon Avenue and Kedleston Road. are designated for a fully electric car club hire facility. The chargers at these locations will be for the car clubs only and once the signs and marking are in place this will become evident. There will be two electric cars at each location. The chargers at these two locations are Fast 7kW chargers, but they take several hours to charge a depleted battery, that is why they were installed to facilitate the car club.
The two chargers on Statham Street and White Street are 50kW Rapid chargers. They can recharge a depleted battery in less than an hour depending on the level of depletion. After the consultation event with residents, it was agree that there will be electric vehicle chargers for general use that did not allow long stay parking. The Rapid chargers allow a quicker turnaround for charging. BP Pulse will charge their custimers who overstay.
We are finalising the information for the next round of residents leaflets; we’ve had to wait for permissions to include information about incentives from Enterprise and BP Pulse. The leaflets should be issued by the end of February in line with the car club launch in early March.”
