Neighbourhood Board Meeting

There was a meetinng on 9th February and this is a round up of the information shared.

DARLEY BOARD NOTES: 09.02.2023

Local Public Protection officers reported that:

  • There are been fewer reports of Anti Social Behaviour in the West End, . While it is quieter than it has been for quite a while, there are some problems near Kedleston Street shops and Quarn Gdns.

  • There have been Issues with some begging outside shops throughout the area. It has been established that at least one person begging isn’t homeless.

  • Aggressive dogs in Darley Park have been an issue, particularly problematic on the multi use path. Obviously, dogs don’t have to be on a lead as long as they are under control.

  •   There is an initiative ongoing with dog fouling. particularly around the rowing club end of the park. Please send details of dog fouling hotspots to: caroline.mapp@derby.gov.uk In general, dog fouling can be reported to StreetPride

  • Another initiative is about bins left out on pavements away from collection days. Leaflets have been delivered to Parkfields Cedars area. There will be follow up measures for those who are still leaving their bins out.

Pavement Sweeper

Newton’s Walk will be swept by council in near future.

School Run:

Clean air campaigns are taking place near schools asking people to turn off engines, etc.  The staff will be starting in Darely Abbey at Walter Evans & Vicarage schools . They will also be looking at St Benedicts and trying to be proactive re top of Broadway before St Mary’s reopens (sometiem this year)

Big Walk and Wheel – is Sustrans challenge running from 20th to 30th March 2023.  The Board is not sure whether Markeaton School is involved. The project aims to promote active travel by offerinng free resources, daily prize draws for schools to win equipment etc.

Darley Ward

Ward will expand to take in the Cathedral Quarter after the May elections.

Our City Our River

Aiming to set up heritage tour of Chester Green to include Strutts Park and St Alkmund’s Well. Signage, etc. There will also be tree planting along the river corridor.

Markeaton Rec

The council hopes to refurb the pathways before the end of the financial year on the town side of Markeaton Recreation ground before the end of the financial year in April. This will depend on the contractor having availaibility.

Houses of Multiple Occupation - HMOs

This is an ongoing issue after publicityin the Derby Telegraph with a petition being presented to the council. The council is considering whether to make changes to planning rules in Derby to bring them into line with neighbouring cities.
