Mobility Hub - Work to Start
Work is Starting on the Trial Electric Charging points Across the Area
The information is on trees/lamp posts at the relevant places. So please check on Statham Street and White Street.
Wheeldon Ave work starts on Friday 17th November through to Sunday 19th. Work starts 9am and finishes at 4pm each day. There is a road closure order but residents will have access to their homes. Pedestrian access will be possible throughout.
Parking is obviously affected. There is temporary No Parking notices up at the relevant places. On Wheeldon Ave the no parking is from Kedleston Road to close to the Six Streets noticeboard.
BP Pulse is working with Derby CIty Council on this project with MS Shaw Groundworks carrying out the work in conjuncton with Nation Grid staff.
This information has been received FRom the council in response to questions asked by Six Streets residents.
· Why were other possible sites, e.g. near Arthur Hind Close rejected for the trial? What made the 3 chosen streets suitable?
The proposed locations were selected as they fit the brief of trialling on-street EV Charging in a terraced location where residents do not have off road parking and there’s the challenge of how to use the limited space. The bid actually states:
“In Derby, the neighbourhood concept will be delivered in an existing residential area to prove the concept is also applicable in established communities”
By choosing the locations that we have we want to know what are the lessons to be learned here that can be used elsewhere locally as well as the UK as a whole. Arthur Hind Close (AHC) is not wholly terraced and does not fit the brief. But, AHC is a potential location for future consideration for Car Clubs as well as on street EV chargepoint installation.
· Did the leaflet/ info session/ planning application use language that would make it clear that this was an open access Derby City Council infrastructure project?
Not seen the leaflet so cannot fully comment on this. The scheme for the 6 Streets (Neighbourhood Hub) is funded by FTZ (Future Transport Zones) for live lab pilot schemes. Again the learning from such schemes will be fed back to the DfT for their understanding to help them gauge things before they roll the scheme out to the rest of the UK.
· Did any use language that would lead people to believe that the charging bays and/or car club was for Sx Streets only?
As previous response. Also, the Car Club would be dedicated to the 6 Streets residents (and those addresses on the fringe). Our aim is to ensure that the operator will engage with the locality (door-to-door, drop-in sessions, roadshows etc) to give the residents what they want (within reason).
· As it is a trial of the infrastructure, what are the criteria for success? How long is the trial period?
Pilot period two years minimum in order to collect sufficient data of usage. Measurement of success will rely heavily on usage data. We’ll need to learn lessons about the location and the public’s views so that we can react accordingly and make any necessary changes. The learning from this will assist us as we’re also in the process of rolling out additional on street EV charge point through the Governments LEVI Fund project.
· If the criteria are met, will there be a further planning application i.e. one for permanent use?
The lessons learned from the FTZ pilot scheme will be fed into the LEVI Funding project to enable and assist its delivery. There is no need for planning application for these proposals within the highway that the Council own.
· What will happen to the parking at the shops?
These spaces were understood to be kept as they are for the time being. Possible changes alterations would come through discussions with the frontages and any sections of the land belonging to the landlord.
· When will the trial start and will more information be given to people nearby before it starts?
Still awaiting a definite date/response from BP Pulse who are waiting to hear from the CPO (Charge Point Operator) National Grid. DCC have issued instructions to NCC to raise the necessary POs for the work. This is done, but we’re awaiting dates so we can inform the Councillors and working group as well as the residents of the area about the scheme commencement dates.
