Traffic Access changes in city centre & Darley Abbey
Derby City Council has released details of its plans to change the layout of some city centre roads and other areas as people plan to resume "normal" life again, now that lockdown restrictions have been eased.
The plans include new large scale segregated cycle lanes on London Road and Uttoxeter Road, changes to traffic in the city centre, and the re-direction of traffic in Darley Abbey and Spondon.
All of the measures are designed to support pedestrians and cyclists and create more space for social distancing. Once in operation, they will be reviewed every three months, and may be changed or become permanent.
Areas such as The Spot, Albert Street, Victoria Street and Wardwick will become one-way, with road space reallocated. Corporation Street will only be open for buses, taxis, cyclists and pedestrians.
Church Lane in Darley Abbey will be closed to traffic when turning in from the A6 Duffield Road, except for cyclists. Pedestrian access will be maintained. This will allow temporary footpaths to be created along the sections that don’t have one. Mileash Lane will have traffic lights where it meets Duffield Rd to cut the queues there as it will be the only main route out of Darley Abbey.
