Mobility Hubs & Traffic Monitoring Cameras
Darley Ward Council Transport Group have been discussing the local mobility hub
It will include:
A bike scheme, likely to be based outside the shops but with other options being the bottom of Arthur Hind Close and outside the Kedleston Road Resources Centre (opposite the Jonty Farmer)
Electric charging points for private vehicles: these will be fast chargers, and there will be a penalty of some sort for vehicles which stay at the charging points once fully charged, so that they don’t get blocked by one or two vehicles. The suggestion is that vehicles will be able to charge fully in under 1 hour. The plan is for two to be located at the bottom of White St and two at the bottom of Statham St.
Car club: the aim is for 4 charging points for car club electric cars which can be hired by the hour / day. It is not yet clear whether somebody could hire one for a week say for a holiday, but it’s almost certain that other cars will be available to car club members which could be hired for longer periods. The aim is to have two charging points on Kedleston Rd in the bays outside the flats at the bottom of Arthur Hind Close, and two at the junction of Wheeldon Ave and Kedleston Rd. It’s not yet clear whether there will be a variety of car sizes, but the contractor is to survey residents about this. The cars should have a range of over 200 miles.
Cameras will be installed on Kedleston Rd to monitor traffic flow, hopefully by the end of January. All data collected is anonymised, and emerges as pie charts, graphs or maps with lines of various colours showing the number of passing pedestrians, cars, bikes, buses etc. Number plates, faces etc are blurred. The system is used widely in Nottingham already, but these are the first such cameras in Derby. The data collected will be used to assess to what extent the mobility hub has affected traffic flow
